Como Lake

There are many reasons for planning an holiday in italy and a stay on Lake Como. Undoubtedly its mild climate, never too cold
in winter, especially in the sunniest spots such as Tremezzo, and not to hot in summer, thanks to the lake’s gentle breeze.
But also the main city’s art, history and silk tradition, the main attractions being the Cathedral, Romanesque churches such as
San Fedele and Sant’Abbondio, and some of the finest examples in Rationalist architecture, such as Terragni’s Casa del Fascio. The historic town centre is ideal for a stroll, whether shopping or just wandering around the narrow streets and alleys. The hill of Brunate with its lighthouse and the panorama on the lake is also worth a visit, especially if you take the Funicular from Como.

The beauty and romance of the villas is one of the main attractions of Lake Como. In the course of the centuries many wealthy and famous people have taken delight in building wonderful villas, adorning them with works of art and creating luxurious gardens. The most renowned is Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, beautifully decorated with frescos and filled with precious works of art, including sculptures by Antonio Canova. The Villa is famous for its beautiful gardens, where exotic plants are coupled with extremely colourful flowers from all over the world. From Villa Carlotta you may take the ferry and visit the lovely town of Bellagio, on the opposite side of the lake.
The town and surroundings are so enchanting that Bellagio is called the pearl of Lake Como. Just a few miles from Tremezzo, on the road towards Como, you can find another exquisite villa in the village of Lenno, the Villa Balbianello, recently restored and open to the public between March and October.

Food specialities: Lake fish is the main ingredient of the local cuisine. Most of the year it is possible to taste risotto con pesce
persico (rice with perch filet) a very tasty and popular dish, typical of this area. Other specialities include soused fish
(fried and pickled), smoked trout, alborelle (small fried fish) and misultitt, dried twaite shads.
